Today my mother moved into residential care. We were fortunate to find a room available in a place that is still allowing some visits, as most nursing homes are not allowing any visits at all at the moment. My father and I went to have a look at it earlier this week. We couldn't have a full tour, of course, but we could get a bit of an idea of how it works. Even that was a bonus as most homes aren't even allowing family of prospective residents inside.
The facility is divided into separate sections with a homey atmosphere. The kitchen,
dining
and lounge areas
look and feel more like a family home than an institution. There are 7 or 8 bedrooms in each "home" section. Mum's room looks out on a bit of garden and the street, so she can watch the world go by.
Mum has always insisted she did not want to go into a nursing home, but really there is no alternative for her now. It is a traumatic time for us all, but I sincerely hope that Mum will be happy here.

It looks really good, about as far from an institutional space as you could go and still be manageable. You are very fortunate to find it so quickly.
Wishing your mum a happy residential time there, it looks very nice and peace of mind for you that she is being taken care of.
Not an easy decision for any of us--but the time comes when it is the best solution...be kind to yourself...and know you are doing the very best you can for her...;)))

What a wonderful facility! Wish we had homes like that here in the US. If we do, I've never seen one.
It looks like a lovely home for your Mum and I hope she settles in well.
Great you can still visit.
Vireya It looks a nice place, I hope your Mum is happy. Kate
No one wants to go into a nursing home, but sometimes it is the best option.
It's such a hard time for everyone, but you know she will have others around for her safety and entertainment. It looks like a lovely place.
I am glad you found somewhere so nice and a room with a lovely view. It is a terribly hard to make these arrangements when your Mum doesn't want to accept what must be, so best wishes to you all during this awful time.
