It's That House Again

Previous photos on 12/3 and 6/4. Today the only remaining section of the original house was demolished and re-built.

I still wonder, "Why?"

Thanks

Received this gift from a student. Last week I installed some anti-virus software for her.

Thank you, but really you are too generous!

Darker

Each week as I leave work on Wednesday, it is darker and darker.

Memories

Walked past this house, which I lived in 28 years ago.

It didn't look like this then, and the apartments next-door were a electro-plating factory at the time.

Tree Love

I love these trees, although I don't love the roundabout they live beside.

I don't like driving through here because it gets very busy at times. But I was on foot this time, and it is almost impossible to get across because no-one thinks they should give way to a pedestrian.

Testing

Tried out my newly-modified free-motion foot.

I could see what I was doing, so that was a great improvement. But it had a tendency to catch on seams, which was a slight problem. It might just need a little smoothing where the bit was cut out of it.

Deodar

Deodars (Cedrus deodara) for sale at Plantmark wholesale nursery.

The label says they grow to 5m, but the ones I saw growing in Himachal Pradesh were just a little taller than that. Wikipedia says 40-50m.

Looking Out

Beautiful sunny day, seen through the window of the classroom.

Surprisingly enough, most of the students actually did come to class!

Rant

This truck completely blocked the only access from the garage to the street. Behind it was a skip being loaded with concrete, and another smaller van. Thanks, guys! Maybe I'll park across your driveway some time.

It drives me crazy. The house with the new grey fence on the left blocked the lane regularly for over 8 months while they did major renovations. Now the one two doors down is just starting their own building project, and it looks like the same thing is going to happen all over again.

Not Loving Vista

On the last day that Microsoft was offering support on Vista with no service packs, I finally managed to install SP1 on my friend's computer.

It now needs SP2, but that still doesn't appear on the list of updates available to this machine. What a stupid system!

At the Incinerator

A visit to Essendon Quilters' exhibition, "Then & Now", held at the Incinerator Arts Complex. This is the historical section.

The largest quilt here won international prizes in 1996 for Robyn Falloon.

Street Trees

I'm told that until the 1970s all the streets around here were lined with plane trees. The council removed them except where every owner was willing to sign that they wouldn't sue the council for damage done by the trees (particularly their roots).

Only about 3 streets kept their plane trees.

Roof

This is the house from 12th March. It looks like they are trying to make a 1930s house, but make it prettier than the original was (compare the decoration on the new gables with the plain original). They've used 2nd-hand tiles on the roof, which this guy was cleaning. Note the way the water downpipe is directed out onto the footpath.

Not Happy

Perhaps if you plant a fruit tree on public land, this is not a surprising outcome:

Loose translation: You took the olives without doing the work. I used water (we have water restrictions at present) and did the work. Watch out!

But can the culprit read Italian?
