This spring we have a currawong nest and a kookaburra nest on our block, and the magpies that include our block in their territory ("our" magpies) nested just across the road.
The baby magpies fledged last Tuesday, and now appear in various places around our block, calling for food.
Three babies:
An adult arrives with food for one:
The adults apparently feed each baby in turn. They will feed them for another two to tree months. Looking after 3 babies takes 3 adults, so the parent birds plus a helper are constantly searching for worms for these big hungry babies.

Hi Vireya lovely pics and very interesting, hope you have a lovely day my friend xx
Magpies are excellent parents. Must be exhausting. Lovely action shots.
Love the grey fluff on the babies.
I never knew that a third bird helped feed the babies! I don't think of magpies as flock birds, but they obviously have a strong connection.
I hadn't heard about the helper either. How interesting! Looks like parenting is a exhausting.
Vireya, you live in beautiful nature. I've never heard of a third helper feeding birds.
