Annual or Perennial?

This little cutie was on the mark-down table at my local hardware place:
It is verbena "Candy Cane". Perfect Christmas colours! Perhaps that was why it was only 30% of its original price? It doesn't say if it is an annual or a perennial, but it is supposed to bloom through to April. I will have had my money's worth out of it even if it dies after that.

Well,we get snow and frost where I live in a northern part of the States, and verbena is an annual...it might make it through a warm winter in the South where they don't have temps below 32degrees..
Love looking at your blog and quilts!

Thanks, Cathy. I've seen one Australian website that describes this particular cultivar as an annual, and a UK one that calls it a "half-hardy perennial". That's confusing, as the UK winter is a lot colder than ours.
