Open and Shut

First a bit of spring from the garden - columbine flowers:

This afternoon I got my Plaid-ish quilt basted. Open pins:

 Closing the pins:

I tend to take photos when the pins are open - probably just because I pause at that point, so I think of grabbing the camera. But then people ask me why I don't close them. Here's the proof that I actually do. I'd stab myself constantly if they were left open!

Do you get a sore thumb closing all those pins or have you got one of those clever gadgets?

I think you've got a good idea there; open pins are easy to move should you find wrinkling in the fabric and need to move some. I'm now in the process of gradually removing pins. That's where I get sore thumb and index finger, and broken nails!

The open pins are a great tip, Vireya. I will try this soon. Thanks.

I would rather use pins than basting with threads. Spring has brought out beautiful blooms.

Have you tried spraying? I love it...
The quilt looks good & will make a nice finish... xox

I noticed open pins in your pictures before. I see now that they do get closed.
In the US I had several six foot tables I used for basting. Here I have a tiny floor space and it is very hard on my knees.

I'm already looking forward to the pictures of the stitched blanket. Don't let your thumbs hurt. M.

I wanted you to know that I enjoyed seeing your photos of the flowers and that echidna in your other posts. Interesting to me. Also hope you are able to get together with your family for Christmas at least. What you are doing there with your pretty plaid piece is my least favourite thing about quilting. I have difficulty getting the layers to behave. Happy Stitching from me.
