Snow

 Well this was unexpected

not normal weather for late September

apparently it was the coldest September day in this part of the world for over 50 years.

It was also the first day of the Great Southern Hemisphere Bioblitz on iNaturalist. Areas all over Africa, South America and Australia are competing to add as many observations as possible between 25th and 28th September.

The snow (and the freezing temperatures) meant finding insects, birds, or even plants to photograph wasn't possible for several hours in the middle of the day.

Some people found other ways to amuse themselves though:

Perhaps it is because we had extreme heat in our area. :-)

The weather is certainly acting up at the moment, cold one day and warm the next. But you have to admit, there is something lovely about seeing foliage covered in white snow.

Have you had snow at your place before? I mean not in September, because that is really out of the box strange! I hope that it didnt kill anything in the garden?

Wow, snow?!? More weird 2020 weather. I hope this isn't an indication of extreme weather in the winter ahead. Thank you for the mention of iNaturalist! I have that app which I use to help identify unfamiliar plants (usually weeds!) in our community garden. I hadn't explored it much beyond that so never knew there were also activities and challenges in it. I now see there had been a Bioblitz in my area last summer. Will definitely be on the look out for that in the future!

Yikes! Snow! It does look pretty on everything though. It's time to address global warming.

A strange view of a flowering garden under the snow. Sometimes the weather is crazy.
