The Third Frolic

Week three of Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt Frolic is again quite simple - a moderate number of half-square triangles.

However my planned colour scheme could be an issue. I interpreted Bonnie's two blues as two separate colours. I decided to use raspberry as the dark blue, and a lighter purple instead of medium blue. But it seems that is not quite what Bonnie meant. So this week when the units are meant to be neutral and blue (all blues), I had to stop and think for a bit. Eventually I decided to stick to my plan and hope for the best. I made half of these units with raspberry and half with purple:

I used a quick way of making them, the "magic 8" method.
Fabrics paired and diagonal lines stitched, when cut apart each pair gives eight:
This is so quick, I had all the sewing and cutting done before lunch, and that included a trip in to Ballarat for a bit of shopping!

After pressing, ready for trimming:
A mixture of berry colours, which I hope will work in the final quilt.

Hi, Greta work on BH . I am using different blues. Really light blue and then a darker blue. Here's hoping mine work too.
I also use the magic 8 method. I'm going to start soon. I finished quilting my friends quilt today too.
Comments were the same for me -- if you get it.

Always hard to predict how Bonnie's quilts will work out. The raspberry and purple work well together so should be fine.
You are nice and quick getting these done. After seeing it was another easy step, I spent the day in the garden and will leave the stitching for the hot weather that is on the way.

Very pretty colorways you've chosen for this mystery. I don't make them as they make me stress too much and I also cannot be cutting so many pieces...but I LOVE seeing how everyone's comes along...hugs, Julierose

You're quick; I've only just found the clue! But, as I'm not making the mystery (yet), it's not serious. I think your fruits of the forest HSTs will work well; both colours have blue in them.

Oh, you're amazingly fast. Nice choice of colors. Marie

I think your raspberry and purple HST look great! I have written down the instructions for all three steps and think/hope I might try and make a start Monday when the heatwave starts! Well that's the plan, because its too hot to bake or garden, so that definitely rules out houseworks, so must be sewing time right!

Will do my Clue 3 on my return from the big smoke....

Great colors. I will have to try your magic 8.

I think I will wait for the reveal and work out if I like the end result before making all those HSTs. Already over my head with them in my Temperature Quilt!
Cheers Wendy

Those colors look so very yummy together, I think your color change will work. Bonnie's designs are usually very forgiving color-wise. If the color values are consistent with what she used then they should play well in her final design. If not then it'll just be time for a "design decision" change to make it work!

You finished them! I did all of my HSTs in gold and red, none of them in the yellow I'm pairing with the gold, so my colors are a little off too. We'll just make it work, right?
