Surprise Flowers

First flowers on this Red Flowering Gum, Corymbia ficifolia, and they do seem to be actually red:

It was planted a few years ago, but has only taken off and started growing well this year.

And hiding among other plants, a cyclamen flower:

Wonderful plants! A cyclamen in the garden? Fantastic! I can only grow them indoors.

You can watch the flower capsules for a long time, and then suddenly they burst open. Lovely red. It is a pity that when the plant grows up they are at the top of the tree and much harder to see. I planted a grafted one that stays small just so I can see the flowers up close.

The flowering gums are beautiful at the moment, lovely and varied blossoms. Pretty shade of pink, your cyclamem.
