Sweet16 in the House

Today the Sweet Sixteen made its way from the Ballarat unit to the new house:

It took a bit of major re-arranging to make space for it. But when I had wedged it in and surrounded it with other stuff, I discovered I should have raised its legs first:

Too low to use with this chair, and for the table beside it to offer support for larger quilts. Will have to move everything around again to raise the legs about 5cms.

Book Bargain

I found this book at an Australian seller with a free postage offer last week:

Their price was nearly $20 less than other Australian sellers. I wondered how they could sell it for so much less. Now that it has arrived, I wonder if this was a poor print run being sold off cheaply rather than being pulped.

The main problem with it is that the index is incorrect. However, it is consistently incorrect, in that every pattern is two pages later in the book than the index says it is. So things are findable. Then there are a couple of patterns that are illustrated incorrectly:

I don't know if 207 and 341 are the only ones with the incorrect pictures, but they are two I noticed immediately. I haven't had the chance yet to check if the accompanying CD is correct - ie if the patterns are on the disk in the location the book says they are.

There are lots of really nice designs in it. And the "1000 Blocks" book cost less than two of the "100 Blocks" magazines, so it was definitely good value. But I would be interested to hear if the issues my copy has are general, or was this being sold off cheaply because of the errors? Anyone else got a copy they could check for me?


Added later: Apparently every copy has these mistakes! And there is an "Errata" pdf that you can download, but it doesn't even include all the mistakes I've listed in this post.

Increased Catchment

Before brekky this morning, three blokes arrived:

and started doing stuff.

By lunchtime:

There was an extra 36 square metres of roof area on the shed! That's more water in the tank if when it rains. Oh, and under-cover parking for two vehicles as well.

Zoo Animals

The first job was to trim all the blocks to the same size:

They weren't all the same, as when I first upgraded my computer to Windows 10 I didn't realise that it wasn't printing patterns at the correct size. Now all the blocks are 25cm square.

Next step is to decide how to arrange them in the final quilt:

Rural Lifestyle Expo

Volunteering on the TreeProject stand:

and talked to lots of people about what TreeProject is all about;

meant that we had free entry to the Expo, so we went early enough to watch the working dogs:

April UFOs

First an update on March's UFO progress. I completed the Christmas tree skirt:

Nice to have one item crossed off the list! But I didn't make any progress on the Sunflowers beyond selecting border fabrics, so it still looks exactly as it did at the beginning of March:

The numbers for April are 11 and 16. My number 11 is the Zoo Animals BOM I did last year:

I made three more blocks after that, but all 12 of the blocks are a pile in a box.

I don't have a number 16 (fortunately!), so if I complete the Zoo Animals before the end of April, I will go back to work on the Sunflowers.
