While I was trying to photograph the new yellow bark on the Eucalyptus leucoxylon, this rather tattered-looking butterfly landed right in front of my camera. It appears to be an Australian Admiral (Vanessa itea).

Wirraway
A Wirraway without its wings or tail. Not something I expected to see while out on a walk.
The plane belongs to the Melbourne Museum. They do have the other bits of it. I had heard that the museum had a storage facility somewhere in the northern suburbs, and I guess I know where it is now.
