Sewjourn

Spent the day sewing at Sewjourn in Lancefield.


I won this day of sewing for me and a friend in a giveaway. It's a lovely spot for a sewing retreat.

Hot Sewing

Spent a lot of time in my sewing room today, although hemming shade-cloth wasn't one of the jobs I had planned to do.


The main problem with my sewing room is that it is not insulated. It got up to 32C in there by the end of the day.

Another Crepe Myrtle

Crepe myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica). This darker pink one is now opening up to join the pale purple ones.

Surprise Vireya

One of my vireyas is in flower. This one is Princess Alexandra.


I rarely notice the buds, so the flowers are a lovely surprise when they pop out.

Red Hot

Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia uvaria) blooming happily. They shrivel up if the weather gets too hot, though.

Australia Day

Grevillea "Goldfever" flowering for Australia Day.

First Border

First border added to triangle quilt. I decided it could just be whatever size it is, rather than becoming a UFO.

Ad Lucem Crescimus

Not quite a meal for a koala yet, but this manna gum seedling has grown a lot since I photographed it on the 23/12.

Re-growth

Lemon tree re-sprouting after its rather severe prune several months back.

Surprise Flower

I thought this was a bottlebrush (Callistemon), but now it is flowering, I know it definitely isn't. So what is it?


I think it must be a Lemon-scented Teatree (Leptospermum petersonii).

Myki

So now I have: 2 mykis, 2 different "pocket guides", and 1 plastic myki holder.


Thanks for the upside-down picture, blogger.

But when I try and put money on them:

Leap Frog

Finally got this sewn together, but now I'm wondering if it needs to be bigger. But if I make it bigger, will I have enough fabric for the borders? I think this is how UFOs are created.

Threatening

Watched these clouds as I walked home, wondering how wet I might get.


Fortunately I had an umbrella with me, because just up the hill where you can see all the trees on the right-hand side, it started pouring down!

Forgot to take any pictures, so here's some fabric flapping in the breeze yesterday.

Trip to Korumburra to visit a friend.


This is the view across the town from her front yard.

Contrast

Contrast between roses which were open in yesterday's hot wind, and one that opened today.

Garden Path

Path to my front door, early morning. By the end of the day, all the roses were fried.

Trialling fabrics for next Red Delicious block.

Rescue

Car boot full of Bunnings markdown bargains. Mainly varieties of Heuchera, marked down from $12 to $2!


They were cheap because otherwise they would have died. The pots were very dry, and the weather was hot and windy. However, after being immersed in water and a dose of seasol (seaweed plant tonic), they are looking wonderful again.

White Strawberries

These tiny white strawberries are the yummiest in the garden.

Block 6

Finally block 6 of Red Delicious is done.

City Trees

Went to the city for an interview.

Perfume

Cestrum nocturnum (night-scented jessamine, रात की रानी, queen of the night) in bloom.


I planted this under my loungeroom window to enjoy the perfume, but at the time it flowers it is often too hot to open the windows.

Quilters' Circle

Afternoon tea with some friends.

Volunteer

Mirabilis jalapa (4 o'clock plant) - grows as a "volunteer" in my garden.


I'd never seen it before moving here, but it comes up in all the local gardens each summer.

Resting

Had to keep my foot up, so made some of these while watching too much TV.
