Quilt Show

Went to the Ballaarat Quilters Exhibition.



The building is the Ballarat Mining Exchange. It is an amazing space. There are little alcoves off each side where smaller quilts were hung, and the huge centre space was filled with the large ones. It was lovely.

Bees Arrive

Drove 40km with a hive of bees in the car. Can relax now they are safely in the backyard!

Finished Top

Finished this top after work.

Trim

Don't seem to have as much hair as I used to:

Testing 1, 2, 3

Unorthodox slash-and-spread alteration to the muslin shows that the shoulders are too narrow. What's going on? I've never had to add to the shoulder length on Burda patterns before.

Testing 1, 2, ...

Ran up a quick muslin, which confirmed 2 things I suspected about this pattern.

a) it doesn't need a zip - easy to pull on.
b) it just doesn't sit right. Glad I didn't waste good fabric.

After the Aphids

This is the rose which was only a bud covered in aphids on 29th September. The outer petals have a little damage, but nothing too bad. The rest of the buds are looking fine.

Tram Line

Visited a few old haunts, including a trip down what is probably Melbourne's prettiest section of tram track - route 109 along Victoria Parade.

On the Bus

The traffic noise was getting to me, and I didn't have my noise-cancelling headphones with me, so I took the bus to work instead of walking.


(How about that for an excuse?)

Getting Warmer

Enjoyed the shade of an occasional street tree while walking to and from work in the sun.

Another Callistemon

Now the red callistemons are starting to flower.


This one is covered in buds, so will look fantastic in a couple of weeks.

Caught

No photos today, so here's one from 2 days ago. An insect caught on a sticky sundew (Drosera species) on the block at Lal Lal.

Hydrangea

Found the first hydrangea flower of the year forming.

Open Garden Visit

Lovely garden bed at Kaporiltja in Scotsburn (near Lal Lal).

Kikuyu

Another 40 litres of kikuyu grass removed from my garden beds. (200 litres so far...)

Plantmark

Visit to Plantmark wholesale nursery.

Rain

Walked to and from work in the rain.

Strawberries

Too rainy for gardening, so sewed some strawberries.

Silver Princess

Lots of weeding, and some more pretty flowers. These are on my Silver Princess (Eucalyptus caesia).

Went to the NOTYQ exhibition. (North of the Yarra Quilters).



Of course the Eltham Community Centre is mudbrick.

Spent 7 hours in this room.

Riding

Rode my bike to a friend's place for coffee.

Pattern Tracing

Traced a Burda pattern and used some dangerous scissors.

The warning on the scissors packet said, "This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects and/or reproductive harm."

Quilters' Circle

Went to a quilters' circle meeting at the neighbourhood house.

Mum's Birthday

Gave Mum some flowers for her birthday.

Donkey

My favourite thing at the Gardening Australia Expo.

Watching

Setting up for a class and discovered it was Gandhi's birthday.

(Bit hard to see, but he is the Google doodle.)

Survival

Planted another ajuga. Will this one survive or be eaten?
