Good-Bye to a Garden

Good-bye to Mr Koala Letterbox, who couldn't come because he is concreted into the ground:

The local children who like to say hello to him on their way to school are probably glad about that.

Good-bye to the garden full of flowers:

That some of those children walking past called, "The butterfly house",

because there were always butterflies flitting through.

Today we collected the last load of stuff we're not saying good-bye to. A car full of plants:

And a ute and trailer looking as if Granny Clampett should be sitting up on top:

Moving Day

Bright and early, this arrived:

Slight difference! Not much garden to be seen at house B just yet. The dark area is the new soil covering the completed dispersion field. And that's Dan the builder ensuring it is clearly marked so no-one will drive on it.

Then Dan moved on:

which was a bit sad, as he has been a big part of our lives for the last 6 months.

Then the movers moved in:

And when they also moved off, we ate our first "meal" in the new house:

Picnic pull-apart and chocolate. Maybe not the healthiest meal ever, but it didn't need plates or cutlery!

A Host of Golden

Life's been a bit crazy lately, but I did stop for a moment to notice that the jonquils are out:

This zygocactus (Schlumbergera truncata) isn't meant to flower for another three weeks:

The autumn foliage of this crepe myrtle hybrid (Lagerstroemia indica x L. fauriei) "Sioux" proved irresistible today:

Even though there won't be a garden to plant it in for another 12 months or so.

Evening Perfume

The brugmansia has huge flowers which release a lovely perfume on these summer evenings:

I seem to have brought a cold home with me, so have done almost nothing since I returned home. But apparently outside spring is on the way:

Twelve Twelve Twelve

The dogs and I didn't venture out much on this rather warm 12/12/12. I had an exam to write and they had a lot of sleeping to do. After the sun had gone I found this delicate umbel on a carrot. Not just an umbel, but umbellules!

Cherry Berry Goodness

Spending some time with my sister and a niece.
Welcome cool change just when it was time to head home.

Blooming

This lovely daffodil has just opened, and there are a few more on the way.

This what I planted in the mystery pot for a friend in March. I'll have to ask her if hers are open yet.

Growth

Last June my mother spent time in a rehab centre recovering after her broken hip. Outside her window was a purple tree dahlia, and during one of my visits to her, someone may have gathered some propagation material.

Here it is, probably Dahlia tenuicaulis, a year later and 100km away, looking great and giving the bees a treat close to home.

Earlier This Year

Last year the zygocactus (Schlumbergera truncata) flowered on my birthday.

This year it has already been flowering for about a month.

Pumpkins & Bees

This is why bees are so handy to have around if you want to grow pumpkins:

This bee is crawling out of a male pumpkin flower after a drink of nectar from right at the base of the flower. As you can see, in the process of getting that nectar, she gets covered in pollen. She cleans it from her wings and her eyes before flying to the next flower but there is still plenty stuck to her to pollinate a female flower!
