Yesterday I got to the end of the pile of scrap rectangles I had cut for the broken herringbone quilt. I ended up with six arrow strips, each of 38 rectangles. Here are two of the strips, ready for sewing together:
Here are the same two strips, sewn together down to the orange and yellow tiger stripe:
The arrow strips were created using partial seams, so joining them involves lots of short seams completing those partial seams. If you are interested there is a video tutorial here: Sew Broken Herringbone Patchwork. I haven't found any written instructions, so I had to re-watch parts of that video as I got to each step.
The previous photo is where I got up to yesterday. Today I finished joining these two:
Hooray! Four more of those to get the whole thing joined together. It is not quick, but once you get the hang of it it isn't difficult either.
Meanwhile I am still making an x-plus block a day, and now there are twelve:
Those strips are beautiful--when I made mine I made them on muslin strips so there was a straight edge for joining...I have never even tried partial seams--good for you;))
ReplyDeletethe X+ blocks are so pretty...

Loving your X-plus blocks!! The colors are wonderful. And thanks for the video. I was having a hard time wrapping my head around that piecing.
ReplyDeleteWhat challenging sewing. I love the result, you must be feeling very pleased with yourself for getting all those partial seams complete.
ReplyDeleteThe more X-plus blocks you add, the better the collection looks.
Your X blocks look great together... & I love the herringbone runner.
ReplyDeleteI feel a finish is just around the corner...xox
Well done. One of the ladies had something typed for us but the tutorial helped.
ReplyDeleteBoth scrappy projects look fabulous ..
ReplyDeleteI like both projects. A nice color scheme will support the designs. Marie
ReplyDeleteI like both projects too. Your x-+ blocks look so orderly and clean. I'm really intrigued by the herringbone. I guess I'll have to watch the video!
