Back to the Titan Arum

I heard on the radio this morning that the flower had opened yesterday afternoon, so it was time to drop everything and head back to the gardens. One or two other people had the same idea:
Queue outside the greenhouse

Inside, 30 minutes later:
Centre of attention

But how does it smell?

Quite a few flies were buzzing around the spadix (the sticking-up bit) which produces a smell like stinky dog bones.

But I think it is beautiful, and feel very lucky to have seen it right here in Melbourne.

  1. Stinky dog bones? Wash Scruff again.

  2. Thanks for sharing that Vireya! Clare had seen it on a documentary on TV a while ago and was very excited to see your photos of it all happening in Melbourne. Just a pain that we couldn't make it in there ourselves!

  3. I saw it on the news and wondered if you had gone back again. How exciting for you.

  4. How wonderful to see it . Amazing color. DH asked if I was talking about the corpse flower?
He'd read about it. Very nice of you to share.

  5. Saw it on the news last night. The wonder of nature.

  6. Your photos are great, Vireya. I did think I should make the effort, but I didn't so thanks for posting.
