Name That Food!

An Italian neighbour we had given some honey to brought around a chunk of dark-coloured, sweet, bread or cake made with our honey. I forgot to photograph it until there was only one piece left:
Apparently it is a very special dish usually only baked at Christmas time. The crust is so dark it looks burnt. The internal texture is like bread, but it is sweet like cake. Do you know what it is?

I've eaten it but can't remember the name. It's like a stollen but that's German.

Hmmm, I don't know the name, but it sounds delicious.

Sounds like it is Panettone. I have it at my daughter's Mother in law's home where they serve delicious Italian fare! Last Christmas they had one with chocolate swirls through it. It didn't appeal to me but I was proven wrong. It was soooo yummy.

Panettone, yes that's it. Anyway, as you inspired me, when i made up the bread mixture for tomorrow's fruit loaf i added honey instead of sugar and quite a dollop of it too. Might have a slice tonight after dinner!
